Graduate Student Writing

There are many different kinds of writing that graduate students need to undertake in their studies. While students for whom English is an additional language require a high level of language proficiency in order to do this writing, they also need knowledge of the expectations and requirements of their academic disciplines to accomplish this successfully. The writing students are required to do often requires understanding the values that are shared by people working in their discipline and expectations of the particular genres they are required to produce. This includes taking account of the particular audience for their text, the background knowledge and understandings it is assumed students will share with their readers, and the ways in which they can demonstrate this through their use of language.
