Abstract

Chapter 4 discusses Multi-hazard-based Land-use Planning for Building Back Better, which is the second Principle in the Mannakkara and Wilkinson BBB Framework. Risk-based land-use is imperative to create safer communities. Land-use planning needs to be coordinated with building regulations to ensure that rebuilding solutions are realistic and affordable. BBB advocates for a multi-hazards approach, thorough planning around risk-based land-use before the start of the rebuilding process, and the careful consideration of socio-economic needs of the community to minimise disruption.
