The first part of the paper gave a brief overview of the history of photography and everything related to it. We mentioned the invention of photography, ie. photographic process of making photographs, and various photographic techniques of making photographs such as daguerotype, heliogravure, calotypes, etc. We showed a brief history of photography development, how it affected the society at the time, examples of some of the first photos, etc. This part of the work is important because it gives us an insight into the historical background of the photography to make it easier to understand the photo-archiving process and why certain photographs are kept in different conditions than others. The second part of the paper focused on displaying photographs as archival material. Photos has long sought its place within the archives, and with the development of photography and entry into the 20th century it got it's place. The process of photo processing is not easy, and there are special steps that must be followed when collecting and archiving photos. As we mentioned the State Archives in Zadar as one of the examples, a short history of Zadar photography has been shown. Photography had a major impact on the transformation of Zadar into a modern European city. And as a modern city, Zadar also owns an archive that meets all the standards of archival processing and protection. Because the ultimate goal is to preserve the photos so that they are available for future generations.
