Abstract
This article aims at describing the phenomenon of talempong musical creation as one of the efforts to preserve the Minangkabau traditional musical instrument to keep surviving in the modern music hegemony in West Sumatra. The article is started by giving a clear picture of talempong music creation, its composition that is compared to other talempong musical instruments that available in West Sumatra. It also shows the preservation of Minangkabau traditional music in the format of modern performing arts. Finally, it describes the existence of this traditional music in the society.
