Abstract

Introduction: Intestinal amoebiasis Entamoeba histolytica is a disease which spreads faster in the world and causes a thousand death every year. In this study, our objectives are to evaluate the efficacy of the treatment of this parasitic disease and to search the factors giving the bad therapeutic results of this. Methods: For obtaining these objectives, we have used the information about 451 patients which had been hospitalized in our Unit during two years. We had had included the patients with specific examinations (serological and microscopic examinations). The patients with negative results and without control after six months had been excluded. All the collected data had been analyzed by SPSS 20.0 software and Microsoft office Excel 2007. Finally, 50 patients had been included (between 45-14 years old). Results: We have had 31 cases of the gender male (62%). The cultivators (56%) and the house keepers (28%) was the most touched without specific signs. The serological tests and microscopic examinations were respectively positive in 49 cases and in 5 cases only. Thirty three (66%) were treated by Metronidazole only, 11 cases by Metronidazole with Tiliquinol-tilbroquinol, 5 cases by Tinidazole and 1 case by Ornidazole during 10 days. The serological control that we have done after six months were positive in 35 patients (70%) such as 26 patients with schistosomiasis (p= 0,002) and 9 with tuberculosis (p=0,030). Conclusion: This study shows a weak success rate therapeutic via Metronidazole after 6 months of treatment. The factors influencing this bad therapeutic results may be by Metronidazole 's resistance and association with schistosomiasis and tuberculosis. And it's recommended to lead to a Randomized Control Study about Metronidazole and Secnidazole which are available to choose an efficacy treatment in our country. In fact, if we have an opportunities to find Scientific Partners, it's very useful to search new drugs for treating intestinal amoebiasis because of our experiences with drugs usually used in Madagascar.
