Abstract

Abstract Green sulfur bacteria are a phylogenetically isolated group of predominantly aquatic bacteria which occur where light reaches anoxic water layers. The cells grow by anoxygenic photosynthesis, using reduced sulfur compounds as electron donor for carbon dioxide assimilation.
