In vitro and field evaluation of fungicides against Curvularia eragrostidis causing leaf tip blight in spider lily (Hymenocallis littoralis L.)

Abstract

Leaf tip blight caused by Curvularia eragrostidis is the most destructive disease affecting spider lily. Seventeen fungicides, among them, nine systemic, four non-systemic, two antibiotics and two other fungicides composed of both systemic + non-systemic were tested against the pathogen in vitro at three different concentrations. the data revealed that 500 ppm tebuconazole, 1000 ppm MeMc and 1000 ppm Iprodione (25%) + carbendazim (25%) completely inhibited the growth of C. eragrostidis. However, Propiconazole, Hexaconazole, tricyclazole and Mancozeb were also proved to be highly fungi-toxic to C. eragrostidis. these above seven fungicides along with carbendazim were again evaluated for their in vivo efficacy at recommended dose. In field condition, the minimum disease intensity (13.89%) was recorded in the plots treated with tebuconazole. the next best treatment in order of merit was carbendazim 25% + Iprodione 25% followed by Propiconazole, tricyclazole, Mancozeb and Hexaconazole. carbendazim and chlorothalonil were found to be comparatively less effective against C. eragrostidis.
