S>In November 1956, the International Commission on Radiological Protection and the International Commission on Radioiogical Units and Measurements were invited by the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation to consider and discuss the question of how to arrive at reliable data indicating the doses to different parts of the body received by individuals and, in the aggregate, by large population groups due to the medical use of ionizing radiations. Dosimetry factors, methods of arriving at statistics, and methods for determining the gonad dose received from diagnostic and therapeutic applications of radiation are discussed. Data received from fourteen countries are included. (C.H.)
