Abstract
The article presents development of battle tanks armours during the last 100 years on the base of literature review considering aspects of the advancement in defence technologies and the threats of asymmetric and full scale military conflicts. Selected designs of tanks which were in the service were studied to assess defence capacities of tank armour systems and their resistance against penetration by kinetic am-munition.
