Abstract
A panel data model, with analyzing selected social-economic factors, is presented to reveal the relationship between China's social-economic development and the number of fire occurrences. Considering the changes of statistical calibers in different years, a few dummy variables are added to improve the model's goodness of fit. The results show that the level of economic development and education level are significantly correlated with the number of fire occurrences. The conclusions of this study will help to provide policy advice on China's fire prevention work during the period of social transformation.
