Agricultural biotechnology for food and nutritional security.

Abstract

This chapter considers the role of agricultural biotechnology in enhancing food and nutritional security in India. An overview is presented of non-genetic modification (non-GM) biotechnology as well as GM technology. The global trends in GM crops, the status of GM crops in India, the Bt cotton experience in India, and agri-food biotechnology are discussed. The chapter ends by outlining a number of actions needed to fully harness the available benefits of biotechnology.
