Abstract

This chapter reviews the evolution of Korean university evaluation and accreditation. Its development from 1945 to the present is analysed, with special emphasis on the organization, procedures and criteria of the current accreditation system. Introduced in 1991, this was developed by the Korean Council for University Education and the Korean Ministry of Education, and is largely based on the American accreditation model. Associated contemporary issues and possible modifications to the system are discussed .
