Abstract

The aldehydes in ambient air are collected in a 0.05% aqueous 3-methyl-2-benzothiazolinone hydrazone hydrochloride (MBTH) solution. The resulting azine is then oxidized by a ferric chloride-sulfamic acid solution to form a blue cationic dye in acid media, which can be measured at 628 nm ( 1 , 2 , 3 ) .
