Abstract

Biomechanical effects of medial meniscus root tears have been studied in detail. Few studies have actually looked at biomechanical effect of lateral meniscus root sectioning. The biomechanical effects of associated tear in meniscofemoral ligament has been conflicting. Study aims to create progressive radial tears in the lateral meniscus root, study the effects of the tears on joint contact forces and joint surface area, through 0 to 90° ROM arc, in the lateral and medial compartment. We aim to find if progressive radial tears produce significant biomechanical changes. If yes what a cut-off percentage tears actually produce these changes. We intended to know how these changes compare to that seen after total meniscectomy.
