Abstract
The port container terminal is a complex system, consisting, with regard to the technological process, of the following subsystems: the wharfage waterfront with berths, stacking areas for the containers, lines of communication for internal transport, and the loading-unloading zone for land vehicles. To make the container terminal operate efficiently, the capacities of the particular subsystems have to be coordinated. The first step in this connection is to determine the optimum accommodation capacity of the terminal, as it is according to the number of berths that the required capacities of the rest of the port container terminal can be computed. For this reason the model of determining the optimum number of berths of the port container terminal is presented in this paper on the basis of the costs one for which the amount of the costs of the ship`s time spent in waiting for the berth plus of the costs of unoccupied berths is the lowest.
