Abstract

Dynamic Tamping is widely used in the treatment of soft soil. This research aims to investigate the effect of dynamic tamping on the seismic resistance of loess ground. It is found that the seismic settlement is sharply reduced and even the increase of seismic settlement coefficient with the raise of dynamic stress is very limited. The maximum seismic settlement coefficient of loess in the depth of 0–5.5m is less than 0.01(1%). The liquefaction potential of loess ground is reduced in some way, yet it does not show any signs of substantial improvement. Thus, a criterion for the seismic treatment of loess ground is proposed.
