Abstract

The subject of the study was evaluation of neotectonic activities based on tectonic indices and geomorphic evidences in Boroujerd district. Stage of the research was in this order: 1- selection of 6 tectonic indices, determination of rates and averaging them for discerning the tectonic activity 2- Evaluation and analysis the geomorphic features and evidences in relation to tectonic activity 3- Synthetic analysis of the results to discern the tectonic activities in the area. Data included topography and geology maps, DEMs. We used the GIS to mapping the physiographic attributes and processing the indices. Also, field survey and photography helped us to fulfill the research. The results indicated that neotectonic activity based on LAT index can be divided to active, semi-active and non-active in different sections of the area. Furthermore, the most important area of neotectonic activity was seen along faults. Geomorphological evidences in relation to tectonic activity were: scarps, alluvial fans, fault springs, terraces, thrusts, horsts and grabens, fault mirror. The final results based on spatial analysis showed the neotectonic activities in Borujerd district exist along the main fault (the quite fault named as Dorud-Nahavand with 140 km length) as well as in along the most minor faults located sourronding the district. Therefore, it is better to consider the morphotectonic evidences and phenomena of the area and effects of them in regional and local planning from planners.
