In this chapter, the basic principles of electromagnetic metamaterials, plasmonics and transformation optics are introduced. The properties of 3D and 2D (plasmonic) hyperbolic metamaterials are briefly reviewed, which will be used in the following chapters. It is shown how electromagnetic metamaterials may be used to engineer unusual ‘optical spaces’. A particular example of electromagnetic invisibility cloak will be considered in some detail.
A significance statement is not available in the OpenAlex record.
A contribution statement is not available in the OpenAlex record.
Method details are not available in the OpenAlex metadata.
Findings are not separately available in the OpenAlex metadata.
Limitations are not available in the OpenAlex metadata.
Application details are not available in the OpenAlex metadata.
