Abstract
In this study, the writer discusses the use of Presupposition focuses on the character’s utterance in “The Croods” film by Kirk DeMicco and Chris Sanders. The data were collected from that film. The objectives of this study are to identify types of presupposition, to explain the presupposed meaning resulted from the utterances, and to interpret the implied meaning of presupposition found in “The Croods” film. The writer used qualitative approach to present the study. The writer also collected the data, categorized, and served the data based on the theory of Yule (1996) and Holmes (2000). There were six types of presupposition; they were Existential Presupposition, Factive Presupposition, Non-Factive Presupposition, Lexical Presupposition, Structural Presupposition and Counter Factual Presupposition. Moreover, Counter Factual Presupposition was the dominant. It also served the implied meaning of the presupposition. From this study 26 data were found; Counter Factual Presupposition were found 12 items, Existential Presupposition were found 8 items, Lexical Presuppostion were found 3 items and each of the type has 1 item those of Factive Presupposition, Non-Factive Presupposition and Structural Presupposition.
