Abstract

Abstract Thermal comfort is a state of mind that ex­presses satisfaction with the surrounding environ­ment of the building space. It is different for every individual and also, depends on the nature of activity of each individual occupant in the building. Understanding thermal comfort is important to building architecture, since it not only the basis for building design, but also affects the field of sustainable design or Green Buildings. Buildings’ as a sector consumes almost half of the energy used in the society in its design, construction, and operation. Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems are the largest contributors to the energy consumption in buildings. Passive technologies consume low or no energy and achieve a high level of thermal comfort. Passive designs that are based on movement of air within the building space helps immensely in achieving high thermal comfort.
