Abstract

The possibilities available for the control of the power output of the powertrain system in a car comprising a combustion engine with a constant transmission ratio are very limited. This results from limitations present in the traditional design of the powertrain and drivetrain systems. At the same time, when these system are coupled with a very subjective control of the passenger car's powertrain system performed by the driver, this often leads to the conditions in which the power output delivered to the drivetrain system is not optimal, e.g. in terms of minimizing CO2 emissions to the environment. Therefore, the authors of this study have undertaken an study into the potential to vary the power output of a powertrain system by application of the digital simulation designed with the purpose of improving the power output of powertrain system in a passenger car comprising a multi-ratio mechanical gearbox.
