Abstract

This edition of the Transportation Statistics Annual Report (TSAR) was prepared in response to a congressional mandate laid out in 49 U.S.C. 111 (j). This year's report presents data and analysis for transportation indicators on 15 topics including: traffic flows, condition of the transportation system, accidents, variables influencing traveling behavior, travel times, availability of mass transit and number of passengers served, travel costs of intracity commuting and intercity trips, productivity in the transportation sector, transportation and economic growth, government transportation finance, transportation related variables that influence global competitiveness, frequency of vehicle and transportation facility repairs, vehicle weights, transportation energy, and collateral damage to the human and natural environment.
