The sustainable utilization of water resources is the support for the sustainable development of the economy and society. In recent years, with the increasing shortage of water resources in the process of economic development, various kinds of new, improved and highly efficient water treatment technologies has emerged. However the ultrafiltration technology has shown great potential in various fields of water treatment for its features such as low energy consumption, simple structure, less land occupation, convenient operation and easy to realize automation, etc, and it has been widely used. This article, which elaborates on the development history, concepts, principles and advantages of ultrafiltration technology, analyses the research situation as well as the application status in the water treatment industry at home and abroad for the past few years and discusses the existing problems.
