Abstract

Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ), also known as Automatic Repeat Query, is an error control method for data transmission that uses ACKnowledgements and timeouts. ACKnowledgement (ACK) represents a message sent by the receiver to the transmitter indicating that pACKet or data frame has been received correctly. Timeout is a reasonable point at the time after transmitter sends the frame or pACKet, specified periods of time allowed to elapse before an ACKnowledgment is to be received. ARQ method has three types of method such as Stop-and-Wait ARQ method, Go-bACK-N ARQ method and Selective-Reject ARQ method. Each method has its own error-detection methods. In this paper provides an illustration of the working error control, especially using Automatic Repeat Request method. Processing methods used in each analysis will show how handling system if an error occurs in data transmission. This is to help the learning and teaching process especially in network courses related error control using ARQ method.
