Abstract
An efficient fiber optic refractive index sensor based on a cladding etched fiber Braggs grating is theoretically analyzed and simulated under the refractive index range of 1.32-1.46. The simulation results show that the effective refractive index of the core mode decreases exponentially as the cladding thickness is reduced by means of etching technique. Furthermore, the sensitivity of the sensor is improved due to reduction in cladding radius and with the increase in surrounding refractive index. The shift in the Bragg wavelength (RED Shift) occurs due to increase in effective refractive index which increases with surrounding refractive index.
