Abstract

This paper analyzes various paths to development in Southern Italy by reviewing the dualism between North and South. However, the gap between southern regions is as significant as that between the North and the South. Taking this into account is essential in terms of policy implications. The paper proposes a typology of Southern local systems according to their economic dynamism and the role of social and political factors.
