Abstract

This report provides an overview of freight transportation, focusing on the volume and value of freight shipments, the extent of the freight network, industry employment and productivity patterns, its safety record, energy use, and related environmental effects. Economic and social characteristics of the United States also are provided as background information. Metric data are available for several tables as well.
