Abstract

The plankton of the lentic water of Uttarakhand Nanak Sagar reservoir were studied for two years (2003 and 2004). A total of 36 taxa of phytoplankton were collected from two sites of reservoir. They are chlorophyceae (17) and Bacillariophyceae (14) being the main components and cyanophyceae with 5 species. Maximum number of chlorophyceae were encounter during March where as the species richness of diatoms was maximum during October. There were 18 genera/ species of various zooplankton (Rotifera) and crustacean in water of the Nanak Sagar reservoir Uttarakhand but their was not a single genera/species of Protozoa was identified during two year of study (2003-2004). Chief components of zooplankton are rotifers and crustaceans including cladocerans, cyclopoid and copepods the phytoplankton showed monthly seasonal and yearly fluctuation in the study.
