Reviews the employment and labour market policies of European and Asian countries that have been successful in improving their employment situation. Concludes that a successful employment outcome requires a good combination of flexibility in the employment relationship and worker security. Also stresses the importance of social protection and social cohesion. Provides examples of good practice.
