Abstract

The subject of the research work relates to the specific characteristics of the Banking Union in the process of the European integration. The first part of this work tries to identify the basic characteristics of the European Banking Union, the reasons for the establishment of the Banking Union and the role of banks and the Banking Union in the single financial market. The second part analyses the mechanism of action of the Banking Union based on: the single supervisory mechanism, with a special emphasis on the Single Resolution Mechanism for banks with significant financial problems. At the end of the work, the importance of establishing and experiencing the Single Deposit Guarantee Fund for individual EU member states and some countries in transition, such as Bosnia and Herzegovina is particularly emphasized
