Abstract

In the present study, the morphological and anatomical characters of Persea americana Miller growing in Pyin OoLwin were studied. The pronounced morphological characters of P. Americana Miller were perennial evergreen trees, simple and spirally arranged leaves, axillary paniculate cymose inflorescences and baccate fruits. The significantly different morphological characters are the shapes and sizes of the fruits. The fruits and seeds are globoid in shape in cv. a. The fruits of cv. b are oval in shape and the seeds are subgloboid with a pointed beak at the apex. The fruits of cv. c are pyriform in shape and the seeds are ovoid in shape. According to the anatomical characters, the stomata are paracytic or rubiaceous type. The vascular bundles of leaves, stems, fruits and roots are conjoint collateral and closed. In addition, it was observed that mean length and width of macerated elements are different from one another in three cultivars.
