Abstract

North Chennai is a major centre for mechanised \nfishing with approximately 1200 fishing units. \nGenerally during the fishing ban period, the \nfishermen from these units either sit idle or enroll \nas labourers for fishing in permitted traditional \nfishing units. But during the mechanised fishing ban \nperiod in 2017, some of the fishers in North Chennai \nstarted mini trawl operations to tide over their lean \nperiod. The size of the trawl net was 15 m in length \nand cod end mesh size of 24 mm.
