Austrian Philosophy Notes; What Is the Methodological Individualism of the Austrian School?

Abstract

The meaning of Methodological Individualism has been one of the most diversified concepts and is one of the basic methodological principles of the social sciences. It indicates an orderly, repeatable and self-correcting research procedure whose object of study is individuals and their set of knowledge, beliefs and behavior patterns. The method does not imply at all the assumption of omnipotence or total freedom of the individuals, where the diverse situations of the complex phenomenon called society is the result of the practices of individuals whose limited action favors the actions of the same individuals.
