Abstract

The extent of lipid peroxidation during bovine growth and some naturally occuring blood antioxidants were investigated.Whole blood was used for the fallowing measurements: lipid peroxidation measured as thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and glutathione (GSH). Plasma was used for albumin determination. The results show that as animals grow and increase in body mass, blood TBARS production increases. The two investigated blood antioxidants had opposite trends. The age when animals reached the largest weight seems to be critical, because significant change of the investigated parameters happened at that time.
