Abstract

Carica (Carica pubesncens) is a typical plant of Dieng Plateau, Wonosobo. Carica seeds (Carica pubesncens) contain flavonoid, alkaloid, and fenol which have antibacterial activity. The purpose of this research is to determine the antibacterial activity of 70% ethanol extract of carica seeds (Carica pubesncens) against Salmonella typhi. This research used laboratory experimental design with post test only. Carica seeds (Carica pubesncens) extraction by maceration using solvent of 70% ethanol. Antibacterial activity of various different concentrations (12,5%, 25%, and 50%) of carica seeds (Carica pubescens) against Salmonella typhi was tested with diffusion method. This research used chloramphenicol as positive control and aquabidest as negative control. The results of this research showed that mean zone of inhibition produced by 70% ethanol extract of carica seeds (Carica pubesncens) with 50% concentration and positif control was 10 mm and 13,67mm. Whereas, extract with 12,5% concentration, 50% concentration and negative control didn’t produce zone of inbition around the hole. Based on this result, it was concluded that 70% ethanol extract of carica seeds (Carica pubesncens) with 50% concentration had antibacterial activity against Salmonella typhi. Whereas 70% ethanol extract of carica seeds (Carica pubesncens) with 12,5% and 25% concentration had no antibacterial activity against Salmonella typhi.
