Abstract
Individual preferences are essential in guiding strategic behavior as they lie at the root of the motivations to choose among different economic, emotional, social and political possibilities. Understanding the microfoundations of individual preferences is therefore essential for advancing research in strategy. This symposium will provide a space to discuss four studies that use experimental setups to explore individual preferences in decision- making. Four presenters will each provide a brief overview of each study. All four studies rely on experimental methods to uncover some aspect of individual preferences. Two discussants will propose a reflection on the strengths and weaknesses of the studies, and future possibilities for research in this topic.
