Abstract
The development objectives of the Odra-Vistula Flood Management Project for Poland are to increase access to flood protection for people living in selected areas of the Odra river and the upper Vistula river basins and to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Borrower to mitigate the impact of floods more effectively. Some of the negative impacts and mitigation measures include: (1) traffic of vehicles and machines as well as earthworks must be minimized to cover only those necessary for the task implementation; (2) store lubricating substances and fuels on dedicated sites, with correct sealing degree and equipped with sorbents for neutralizing oil derivative substances; (3) use an appropriate drainage system, ensuring the maintenance of excavations without stagnant waters; (4) avoid the operation of more equipment units in the same place at the same time; and (5) localize standstill sites for machines as far as possible from the areas under noise protection and at the same time as close as possible to the area of works.
