SILTATION OF DAMS IN ARID REGIONS ALGERIAN EXAMPLES

Abstract

This article examines the phenomenon of silting of dams in arid regions. Its complexity poses enormous problems to managers of dams. Siltation is the result of deposits of mud of soil erosion in watersheds and the sapement of riverbanks. It is in times of flood dams are silting by density currents. It is the first floods of autumn that bring the greatest quantity of mud. We approached the process of siltation of dams. The erosion of the watersheds was treated with a comparative study between the values recorded in the Maghreb. Not to mention the phenomenon of sapements the banks of wadis that has never been the subject of serious study. Tons of land is eroded annually and transported directly to the sea and dams. Sediment transport; a very important part in the process of silting was reviewed in this paper. The last step was devoted to the problems and ways to fight against the silting of dams.
