Winter wheat Baletka

Breeding method -pedigree: The breeding goal was to produce an early variety combining high breadmaking quality with high yield. Ear selection started in F 2 generation, the first natural disease screening started in F 3 and was repeated in F 4 generation. Resistance to brown rust, Stagonospora nodorum blotch and Fusarium head blight has been tested in special nurseries following artificial infection since F 5 generation. The yield trials started in F 5 in one location; then trials were conducted in 4 (F 6 ) and in 5 (F 7 ) locations. Since F 3 generation the basic quality parameters like protein content, sedimentation volume and falling number were measured, which continued progressively in advanced generations. In 2005 the line BR 03/008 was applied for the Official Trials in the Czech Republic and Hungary. Based on the results in the years 2005-2007 the variety was registered under the name Baletka in the Czech Republic and Hungary.
