Abstract
A BASIC computer program is presented that calculates the optimal machine setting for manufacturing conditions of (possibly) unequal scrap and rework costs. It calculates the expected number of scrap and rework parts and the associated costs for the optimal machine setting. It also calculates a table that shows the change in cost when the machine setting shifts or drifts, as in the case of normal tool wear.
