Abstract

Pedigree: crossing of SG-S299-94 × BANTI (SG-S299-94 = Saxana × Minaret)Breeding method -pedigree: The breeding goal was a high-yielding variety with good baking quality and disease resistance.Single plant selection started in F 2 generation and continued in F 3 .In F 4 a two-row microplot was harvested and preliminary yield trials started in F 5 (1 location, two replications).Screening for baking quality started in F 2 generation and continued till the variety registration.Diseases (powdery mildew, rusts -yellow, brown and stem) were evaluated under natural and artificial infection since F 2 generation, tests on leaf necrosis and Fusarium head blight started in F 5 -F 6 .In F 6 the breeding line was evaluated on 5 locations and in F 7 it was sent to Official Trials under denomination SG-S1098-00.After three years the line was registered as the variety Sirael.Maintenance breeding started in F 6 generation.
