Abstract
The aims of this research were to determine the antioxidant and cytotoxic activities and phytochemical screening of Beligo (Benincasa hispida Thunb. Cogn) seeds extract. The extraction of Beligo seeds by maceration using ethanol 96%. Antioxidant activity was determined by using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical. The IC50 value for DPPH assay was 54,987 ppm. The cytotoxic activity was assessed by using brine shrimp lethality test (BSLT). The LC50 values of the tested samples was 4,666 ppm. Phytochemical screening showed positive results for flavonoids, terpenoids, and alkaloids.
