Abstract
Last few years introduction of mechanical pruning in orchards has become one of the most tested topics in Western Europe. The main reason for occupation are rising costs of manual labor which becomes too expensive in fruit production. Mechanical pruning can reduce manual pruning from 100 to 40 hours per ha. Until recently orchard pruning was mainly manual. Using modern machines for pruning increases in quality are significant with huge savings in time. Main goal of this research is to explore advantages and disadvantages of manual pruning. The expected resultus of the research are based on working effects of manual and mechanical pruning. Field measurements will take place in apple orchard in size of 7,3 ha at the Intrada - Neretva d.o.o. Komin Neretva valley. Experimental measurements include application of lateral/side cutter attached to the tractor BK 180, and manual pruning equipment. Measurements will be made on 3 apple varieties ( cripss pink, fuji and granny smith). Received data from manual and mechanical pruning will be statistically processed and emphasize the economy in orchad pruning.
