Worldwide, vehicle insurance fraud is on the rise and, according to Black more (2013), it includes tricks such as causing accidents intentionally, fraudulently registering hit and run claims, and staging vehicle thefts. The website www.insurancejunction.co.za/insurance-fraud estimates that between 25% and 33% of all vehicle insurance claims have an element of fraud and further states that insurance fraud can be the motive for murder.
