Abstract
During the last ten years, there have been three significant reasons for the development of short sea shipping, and they are: the main generally justified transportation, unification and strengthening of connections between the European Society of Short Sea Shipping and the European member countries revitalizing the peripheral regions and the very economic justification of the integration of short sea shipping in intermodal transport chain and real “ door-to-door” transport. This also means that its aim is the integration of different intensity into a unique customer-oriented model – “ door-to-door” service. Short sea shipping requires attracting of larger amounts of logistic organization, service level, frequency, punctuality, network, and single-way purchase for the management and evaluation of the entire transport chain in complete and overall transport. Short sea shipping and the European maritime industry can provide each other a new market with different possibilities.
