Abstract
Attempt s to predict the future must have started as soon as men found themselves capable of speech. Unfortunately, the evidence suggests that this is one human activity which has not improved with practice. But the temptation to go on trying is very great because there is obviously so much to be gained by anticipating the future. The fact is that the ability to think ahead has always been an important factor in success or even survival.
