Abstract

Here we propose and demonstrate a new type of microsphere whispering gallery mode (WGM) resonator with microsphere-microsphere coupling. The coupler consists of a microsphere attached to a single mode fiber (SMF) tip by use of UV adhesive. The microsphere-microsphere coupling system is robust, compact in size, easy in fabrication and stable in operation and has good Q-factor of 4.72×103. The WGM resonator developed in this work is also explored for vibration measurement.
