Abstract

An experiment was conducted to standardize the seed propagation techniques with various pre-sowing seed treatments in ornamental plant, Canna indica. Among the different pre-sowing seed treatments, germination percentage and vigour index were found maximum (52.66 and 757.73) in seeds treated with hot water (500c) for 30 minutes, followed by can. H2SO4 treatment for 5 minutes. The other parameters viz. shoot length, root length and number of leaves, recorded almost similar values in both the treatments. However, the days taken for initiation of germination were lesser in case of Conca H2S04 than the hot water treatment. The lowest germination was observed in seeds treated with cow urine, which was at par with control (6.0%).
