•Low-normal thyroid function within the euthyroid range may impact on health. •Whether differences in TSH, FT4 and FT3 influence life expectancy is unknown. •2431 euthyroid subjects were followed for 13 years; 218 subjects died. •Life expectancy did not vary according to tertiles of TSH, FT4 and FT3. •Low-normal thyroid function does not influence life expectancy in euthyroid subjects.
