Abstract
Membranous nephropathy (MN) is one of the leading causes of nephrotic syndrome in adults. Some cases are associated with malignancy, infections, autoimmune systemic diseases, or drugs, but most are of an autoimmune nature, being referred to as primary (PMN).1 The natural course is variable and unpredictable: approximately one-third of patients with PMN undergo spontaneous remission,2 whereas most patients with persisting nephrotic syndrome will progress to end-stage renal disease within 10 years.
